6th Grade Watercolor Flower-In Style of artist Georgia O'Keefe

6th grade art students watched a film about American artist Georgia O'Keefe. We talked about her unique style of her time of blowing images up very large on canvas, and the style of painting she used. Her subjects were dominated by American S.W. themes, animal desert skulls, and flowers. Mrs. Sanderson brought several vases of roses from her rose bushes at home, and students first drew the roses on watercolor paper, focusing on enlarging the images to fill the paper to the edges. They could even cut off the edge of the flower, as long as they worked large on paper. The watercolors were very beautiful, and the students learned about the medium of watercolor paint, compared to acrylic, which they had worked in earlier.

In the end, we exhibited all work together which was arranged around the color wheel according to color.
